Twelve -substituted--dialkylaminomethyl benzimidazoles (Ⅱ_(a-)) have been synthesized by "reductive cyclization" of the corresponding -bromo-, chloro-and methoxy--nitro-dialkylaminoacetanilides (Ⅰ_(a-)) with sodium hyposulphite in dilute acetic acid.
